UK Space Agency funding projects that help UK farmers

The UK Space Agency has announced a new project that connects space technology with everyday farming.

The work is part of the Unlocking Space for Business programme, which is backing two pilot projects this year.

One of them, called GeoCrop, combines satellite imagery and weather information to guide decisions about planting and crop planning.

The second project, SEDERS (Space Enabled Decarbonisation, Environmental and Regenerative Solutions), looks at land health by tracking things like soil carbon, biodiversity, and water movement.

Both projects are being developed alongside farmers to make sure the tools are actually useful on real farms.

The wider aim is to improve productivity in a competitive markets while supporting more sustainable and climate-friendly practices.

It’s another example of how space technology and data can deliver real‑world benefits for many UK industries.

This isn’t the first time the UK Space Agency has supported practical space applications for UK businesses.

Other projects use Earth observation satellites to improve flood monitoring and disaster response across the UK.

The agency has also funded initiatives helping UK businesses use satellite data to manage infrastructure, transport networks, and environmental risks more effectively.
