UK-led Euclid Camera takes largest ever images of the universe from space

This image of Abell 2390 has been released as part of the Early Release Observations from ESA’s Euclid space mission.

Abell 2390 is a massive galaxy cluster, comprising an enormous assembly of galaxies similar to the Milky Way.

Over 50,000 galaxies are observed within this cluster, with their distances being determined through these new observations.

Euclid’s VIS is one of the largest optical cameras ever sent into space and supported by £20 million of UK Space Agency funding.

Professor Mark Cropper from Mullard Space Science Laboratory at University College London led on designing and developing the VIS camera.
